Mike started playing bluegrass guitar in the late 70's. His first band was Elbow Grease, put together with some boys from the Airforce Base in Duluth. After some of those pickers moved on Mike formed Bluegrass Crossing. They were together about 5 years most members picking every Wednesday night at Sir Benedict's Tavern. After meeting Kim , they formed the Natural'grass band with some other folks. Mike has always had an ear for harmonies and his meticulous directives took the band in a very progressive new grass direction. With the Fish Heads, Mike is reunited with banjo player Brian Ford, who go back to when they were both young men. A trip to Bean Blossom, Indiana and Bill Monroe's Festival gave them both what they needed for a high energy sound and a mean bluegrass drive, which is still the mainstay of this band.
