Kim Curtis-Monson

Kim Curtis-Monson has been performing music for more than 30 years. She began her musical career doing solo stuff, but started with bluegrass in about 1983 with a visit to Duluth's local pub, Sir Benedict's Tavern on the Lake. Her now husband Mike had been one of the founding members of the Wednesday night jam with his group. Her first bluegrass band membership came with a band called Hawk Ridge Bluegrass. She and Mike then formed Natural'grass, which was together for about a dozen years and performed over the tri-state area and Canada.

Her songwriting and music is now a good portion of the Fish Heads music. Her haunting ballads and stories that feel like a piece of Appalachia are loved by many. Kim plays guitar, stand-up bass and some mandolin, and on occasion you'll find her banging on a big djembe drum. Vocally she is driven by old blues artists, but also loves the wailings of Gillian Welch and Julie Miller.

Kim hosts Chick Jam once a month at the Amazing Grace Bakery, jam for women and girls.
